Bah, I've had code that 'looked good' too, but still came up with a syntax error. No decompliers back in the day, sometimes it took hours, character by character.
Doesn't matter, you have my respect for learning actionscript young man.
I don't have the patience to learn actionscript properly, I just code on the timeline when I'm supposed to use seperate AS files. Ah well...
